If you are a fan of David Allen's Getting Things Done (GTD) approach to productivity and also love the old style command line tools, you may want to give taskwarrior a try.

Personally, I have been using the little Hierarchical Notebook (hnb) application for quite sometime now, and it does what I need. I even managed to sort of adapt it to the GDT methodology (mind you, a very sui generis approach that I ended up using, where I adopt some of David Allen's ideas but not others... I've never been an extremist). Nevertheles, taskwarrior has some features that do sound interesting, like the ability to synch to devices.

Incidentally, don't get confused if you search for it on a Debian system and you don't find it. For some reason, they decided to name the package just task. {link to this entry}
