Sorry for the lack of activity over here lately, but my family and I are getting ready to move back to Seville (Spain), and I don't have much time to read the technology news or write about them these days. I will hopefully be able to continue when we finally settle down on the other side of the pond. {link to this story}

We are so used to be connected all day long, both from home and from work, that all too often we assume that being connected is today's normal state for the vast majority of people, both abroad and, especially, in our own country. So, it comes as a surprise to read tha, in reality, just about 10% of the world population has access to the Internet (in Spanish). Even in the US, the percentage of the population that has Internet access is 60% or so, and not higher than 40% in Japan. In total, there are 200 million Americans and 154 million Europeans connected to the Net, while in Africa it's just 4 million, and 25 million in Latin America. In other words, we should definitely watch out when we talk about the Net as a "global network", which certainly is but let's just be aware of its limitations and distortions. At least for the time being, it's still too limited to the developed world to consider it truly representative of what's going on out there. Let's face it: it's just the privileged who have access to the Internet, although we may not consider ourselves privilege at all. Well, we are. {link to this story}

Browsing around some Spanish websites, I came across a post in a blog explaining that both Días de Cine and Redes can be found online using eMule. Not only that, but apparently the Spanish Government-owned TV station, RTVE, has decided to use a P2P application, Octoshape, to provide free access to some of its archives, just like BCC did not so long ago. Hopefully, more and more public media will free up their archives, especially those that are supposed to be providing a public service anyways. {link to this story}
