Although warning that free software can be used for commercial purposes just like anything else, the author also clarifies [sorry, the original is in Spanish and I have no time to translate]: {link to this story} [Thu Apr 6 09:20:02 CDT 2006]I was just told that SuSE has nightly snapshots of their kernel builds publicly available on the Internet. It is a nice service, I think. After all, not only do most vendors clarify that they do not support beta software but they also refuse to make it easier for their customers to run it. In this case, SuSE is going the extra mile to provide these beta kernels that some customers may prefer for one or another reason. As a matter of fact, the way I learnt about it is because a customer called claiming that the 2.6.16.1 kernel appears to perform way better on most architectures and he would like to give it a try on our SGI Altix. {link to this story} |
