We like to think of dictatorships in terms of black and white. Everybody knows they are bad. Everybody knows people are tortured and killed. How could anyone, we wonder, even dare to enjoy himself, celebrate or go on with his own life under a brutal regime? Yet, the fact is that it happens. Couples fall in love, get married, have kids, celebrate anniversaries, plan trips to the beach, watch the movies, dance and have a great time also in dictatorial regimes. That is something we learn while watching Goob Bye Lenin! No matter how dire the circumstnaces, people live on. We, human beings, adapt to almost any situation.
