American Writers	Put together by C-SPAN, the American public TV station that also covers the debates in Congress. It includes streaming media, study guides, portraits, etc. together with some nice introductions.
Cambridge History of English and American Literature	This is considered one of the most important works of literary history and criticism ever published. The eighteen volumes can be read online. It covers poetry, fiction, drama and essays not only from the pure English tradition, but also the Native American or Jewish ones.
Yasuda Women's University: History of American Literature	Online papers for the lectures taught at the Yasuda Women's University on American literature. Nice introductory texts, although some of the links are broken and there is some missing information.
Brief Timeline of American Literature and Events: Pre-1620 to 1920	A simple timeline of American authors and works. Nothing more, nothing less. It is quite useful as a reference.
American Authors on the Web	A very complete collection of links to resources on many American authors going all the way back to the 1500s. It's a pity that it stops in the 1950s.
Top 20 American Literature	Collection of links to many other sites that offer resources on American literature: encyclopedias, texts, websites, glossaries, directories...
Library of America	Some years ago, Vintage decided to start a new collection called Library of America that would put together all key works of American literature in a nice and affordable edition.
American Poets Project	Another series launched by Vintage. In this case, it puts together the works of the greatest American poets in compact and affordable volumes.
Reporting Civil Rights	Companion site to the Vintage's series by the same name that presents the reporters and journalism of the American Civil Rights Movement.
